General Braddock's Grave
Fort Necessity

Fort Necessity National Battlefield, located near Farmington Pennsylvania, marks the first battle of the French and Indian War. The park, which was established by an act of congress in 1932, consists of three separate sections totaling 900 acres. Here, George Washington commanded 400 Colonial and British troops in a failed attempt to stop the French colonial expansion.

Over 100,000 people a year visit Fort Necessity. In 2005 the park built a new visitor's center. Fort Necessity is open from sunrise to sunset year-round and makes an excellent educational trip and a unique opportunity to connect with our nation's history.

Nearby is Jumonville Glen, which is where Washington had his first encounter with the French, killing ten of them and wounding 21 more.

A monument in the park marks the grave of British General Edward Braddock. It is one of the most visited features in the park, and a view of Braddock's Road is visible from the monument
